Prof. Gurkan studied at the Hacettepe Faculty of Medicine from 1997 to 2003. In October 2009, he was certified as an otolaryngologist. He participated in the written part of the European ENT Board test and received an excellent score, which made him the third European ENT specialist.

The “International Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery” gave him the Diploma of Facial Plastic Surgery Specialist. He was only the third Turkish physician to receive this honor.
