It is a way to replace a full arch of teeth on four implants rather than one implant per tooth. Two of the four are angled to make the most of the bone you have, which often avoids a bone graft, and a fixed bridge of 10 to 14 teeth is attached to them. It replaces a whole jaw of teeth, not individual ones, and the fixed bridge is not removable like a denture.

The implants themselves have a strong track record. In a study of 561 patients followed for up to 17 years, cumulative implant survival was 97.4% in the upper jaw and 98.9% in the lower jaw. Two honest caveats sit behind those numbers: the upper jaw was the single biggest risk factor for failure, and the bridge on top is a separate component that wears and is expected to be renewed over the years even when the implants are fine. Implant survival and never needing any work are not the same thing.

The lower jaw. In the 17-year study the upper jaw (maxilla) was the most significant risk factor for implant failure, with failures concentrated in the first two years. This does not mean an upper All-on-4 is a bad idea; it means it deserves a more careful assessment of your bone, and a surgeon who treats the two jaws as different problems rather than one procedure.

Measurably. In the same long-term study, implant survival was 97.9% in smokers versus 99.2% in non-smokers. That gap is small in a percentage but real over a full-arch reconstruction you intend to keep for decades, and it is why surgeons ask you to stop. It is one of the few risk factors entirely within your control.

People who have lost most or all of the teeth in a jaw, or whose remaining teeth are failing from decay or gum disease, and who have enough bone to anchor four implants (All-on-4 is designed to use available bone and often avoid grafting). Good general health, healthy healing and being a non-smoker, or willing to stop, all move you into the group where the survival figures above actually apply.

The cost difference is real and the surgery itself is well established. The parts to get right are the same as for any implant work abroad: verify the surgeon and the hospital, confirm what the price includes, and understand that a full-arch reconstruction needs follow-up over years, which is harder to arrange when the clinic is in another country. Weigh the saving against that, honestly, rather than on price alone.

A full arch, usually a fixed bridge of 10 to 14 teeth on the four implants. One arch (upper or lower) is one All-on-4; replacing both jaws is two procedures and roughly twice the cost. Make sure a quote states whether it is for one arch or two.

Usually about a week for the surgical stage: the implants are placed, a temporary fixed bridge goes on, and you fly home to heal. The permanent bridge is fitted after 3 to 6 months of healing (osseointegration), which means either a second trip or a plan for the final bridge to be handled closer to home. Confirm which before you book, because it changes the total cost and effort.

Typically the four implants, the surgery, a temporary bridge, and often hotel, transfers and interpreting. The two things to pin down in writing: whether the permanent bridge and its material are included or billed later, and whether the second-stage visit to fit it is part of the price. These are the largest hidden costs in full-arch treatment.

It is a routine, well-documented procedure with high implant survival, and the risks are those of any implant surgery: swelling and bruising for a week, minor bleeding on the first day, and rarely infection or temporary numbness of the lip or chin from nerve irritation. Implant failure is uncommon and clusters around smoking, poor bone quality, and infection, which is why patient selection matters more than the marketing around any particular technique.

Swelling and bruising around the jaw and cheeks, peaking around day three and settling within a week; minor bleeding in the first 24 hours; manageable pain; and, less often, infection if hygiene instructions are not followed. Rare risks include temporary numbness of the lip or chin and implant failure, the latter linked to smoking, poor bone and infection rather than to the technique itself.

The number of implants supporting the arch: four versus six. All-on-6 spreads the load across more implants and can suit a jaw with more available bone, while All-on-4 is designed to work where bone is more limited and often avoids grafting. More implants is not automatically better; the right number is a clinical decision based on your bone, not a package tier to upgrade. A good surgeon recommends the number your jaw actually needs.

Lower cost of living, lower salaries and a favourable exchange rate, the same reasons that apply across Turkish medical travel. It is not a discount on the implant brand or the surgeon's training. What a very low quote usually cuts is the permanent bridge material or the second-stage visit, so read what is included rather than the headline number.

Compare like for like: does the quote include the permanent bridge as well as the implants, which material is that bridge, and is the fitting visit included? One arch or two? A clinic quoting only the implants and the temporary bridge can look far cheaper than one quoting the finished result, while delivering less. The finished, fitted arch is the number that matters.

The main one is deep vein thrombosis from sitting still, as with any surgery followed by a flight. Stay hydrated, move and walk the cabin, and follow your surgeon's advice. Flying itself does not threaten the implants once the surgical site is stable, but do not travel before your surgeon has confirmed it is fine to.

You send recent dental X-rays or a CT scan and a brief history, and an independent partner surgeon reviews your bone and proposes a plan and price. Treat the remote review as a screening step: the bone is properly assessed in person, and the plan (including whether four implants or six suit your jaw) can change after that examination.
